Randy Frey

Pastor of Christian Education | Headmaster

Randy Frey was born in Northern Ontario and grew up in the Waterloo Region. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Waterloo and a Bachelor of Education from Nipissing University. He soon after felt the call to ministry and began serving at Trinity Bible Chapel.  He graduated from Heritage Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity Suma Cum Laude in 2018.  He was ordained as Pastor of Christian Education by Trinity Bible Chapel in September of 2019.  He has a passion for discipling and teaching children while showing them the glories of the Lord found in the Bible. Randy is the headmaster at King Alfred Academy as well as a Pastor at Trinity Bible Chapel. He has a beautiful wife named Nathalie and an adorable girl named Sydney. Both are a blessing from the Lord.

Brad Hooper

Grade 6-8 Teacher

Brad Hooper is excited to join the KAA faculty as the Grade 6-8 Teacher. Having graduated from Heritage College & Seminary with his Bachelor of Religious Studies and Master of Theological Studies, he began working there in 2016, first in administrative and later in teaching roles (global mission and church history). His passions are discipleship, great books, soccer, and homemade pizza (in roughly that order); favourite authors include G. K. Chesterton and J. R. R. Tolkien. Brad grew up in the GTA and married his youth-group sweetheart, Vanessa. Together they have three children: Gwen, Felix, and Rowan.

Andrew Emery

Grade 3-5 Teacher

Andrew Emery teaches our Grade 3-5 split class. Andrew earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Waterloo and a Bachelor of Education at the University of Western Ontario. He taught for the Waterloo Region District School Board as an Occasional Teacher from 2009-2019. He has a passion for history, theology, and literature. Andrew occasionally writes on theological topics at the Reformed Rebel Network blog. He is excited to teach a Christian worldview to the next generation. Andrew has a beautiful wife named Dayna and four wonderful daughters.

Dawn Ronson

Grade 1-2 Teacher

Dawn Ronson is a wife, and mother of three sons. Teaching is her passion. She graduated with a Bachelor of Religious Education after studying at Pensacola Christian College and Temple Baptist Bible Institute.  She has taught in a Christian school, homeschooled her boys, and taught Sunday School since she was 16 years old.  She is really looking forward to teaching grade 1 and 2 at King Alfred Academy, and getting to know her students and their families.

Erika Van Holst

JK/SK Teacher

Erika Van Holst is excited to be teaching the JK/SK class at King Alfred Academy. Erika is married to Dan, and together they have three children. She spent many years in the field of social work before sharing her love of learning with her children through homeschooling. With her experience as a home educator and her involvement in various kid’s ministries over the last 12 years, Erika brings a fun and creative atmosphere to the classroom. Erika looks forward to sharing her love of Christ through play and discovery.

Gabriela Barrenechea

Language Teacher

Gabriela Barrenechea is very excited to be the Language Instructor at King Alfred Academy.  She lived in several countries growing up, from Europe to South America to North America.  She’s passionate about languages, having studied English, Latin, Portuguese, French, Italian and Spanish, and is currently learning Japanese.  She has a Business degree from Universidade de Brasília, in Brazil, and a Masters in Cultural Management from Universitat de Barcelona, in Spain.  As Music is her other passion, Gabriela has been teaching Music Theory and Piano for 15+ years at her home studio.

Bridgett Maggs

Music Teacher

Bridgett Maggs has been married to her husband John for almost 20 years and has enjoyed raising and homeschooling most of their 5 children. Bridgett has spent many years of personal study of music and looks forward to teaching your children the joy and beauty of music and the freedom that comes in worshiping our heavenly father with our voices.
